Young and Hungry Vision Statement"Young and Hungry invests in the future of theatre. We provide a unique springboard into a professional theatre environment. Our mentoring process places young people with respected practitioners, a collaboration that not only creates vital new, New Zealand work but is a breeding ground for New Zealand's creative communities."Young and Hungry focus on 3 main professional development programmes for 15-25 year-olds
Young and Hungry HistoryYoung & Hungry started life in 1994 at Bats theatre as a series of one act plays designed to give young people, aged between 15-25 years, the opportunity to partake in a professional theatre environment under the direction of professional theatre practitioners. Since then it has significantly grown and is now run by the Young and Hungry Arts Trust. Many theatre practitioners have worked on Young and Hungry productions and have gone on to have careers in professional theatre, film and TV. From writers such as Jo Randerson, Riwia Brown, Hone Kouka, Briar Grace-Smith to actors such as Taika Cohen (Scarfies), Loren Horsley (Kombi Nation), and Michelle Ang (The Tribe, Neighbours). Many Technical participants have gone into full time training at Toi Whakaari: NZ Drama School and are still working in the industry today. All are making an enormous impact on the New Zealand Stage. |
